Reduced Skycatcher Rate

Effective 1 May through 30 June the hourly rate for the new Cessna 162 Skycatcher, our light sport aircraft will be reduced to $90 per hour.  We invite you to experience the new light sport aircraft equipped with the Garmin 300 avionic package.  Also remember we have discovery flights for only $79, a great gift or a treat for someone not pursuing a rating.

Kids Fly Free

Come join us Saturday, May 12 for our Young Eagles day sponsored by the Moore County Airport and the local EAA chapter.  The pilots provide the airplanes and the airport provides the fuel for free airplane rides for kids ages 8 to 17.  The Boy Scouts will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, and other goodies.  Flights start at 9:00 am.  Come join us for fun and an exciting opportunity for young men and women to experience the thrill of flight!

Public Information Briefing

The public information briefing held Saturday was a great success.  Our goal was to share facts about the Moore County Airport, how it operates, how it is funded, and planned improvement projects.  As the briefing indicated, no taxpayer dollars are used for day to day operations of the airport, a great benefit to the citizens of Moore County.  Thanks to all our loyal customers and friends who attended.  For those not familiar with the airport please visit us any time.  For anyone wishing to learn to fly, take a scenic flight, or purchase a flight gift certificate, we have a great deal.  A scenic flight costs only $79!  Visit us soon.

U. S. Veteran Colonel Hal Shook Jump Event

Colonel Hal Shook Jump Event

The Moore County Airport, along with Dugan, Briggs and Associates, will host a jump for U. S. Veteran Colonel Hal Shook. Colonel Shook will jump with Mike Elliott, Director of Parachute Operations for Dugan, Briggs and Associates.  Mike is the tandem instructor that jumped the 41st President George H. Bush on two occasions.

Colonel Hal Shook was a Fighter Pilot in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam with over 105 combat missions.  He has received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with nineteen Oak Leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, Belgian Croix De Guerre, French Croix De Guerre with Palm, Belgian Fourragere,   Commendation medal with cluster and the Legion of Merit.  Colonel Shook was recently presented the Legion of Honor by the French Government.

Colonel Shook’s jump will be cause for another milestone celebration…..his 92nd   birthday!

Jump Operation is scheduled around 11:00 a.m. and other events will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  Hot dogs will be available for those in attendance.

  1. That the Moore County Airport was established in 1929, originally named the Knollwood Airport?
  2. That Moore County acquired the airport from the Knollwood Development Company in 1935?
  3. That from 1942 to 1945 the airport was leased to the U.S. Army Air Corps and was used as the Knollwood Army Auxiliary Airfield?
